Booking your first massage or facial can feel a little unknown. What do you wear? Do you talk? Will it hurt? These are the questions our guests ask us most, so here is a simple walk-through of your visit at Palm Massage Spa in Sandy.
The short version: you are in control the whole time. Tell us what you need, and we will take care of the rest.
Before your visit
Pick a treatment that fits your goal.
- Want to relax and unwind? Try a Swedish massage. It is gentle, smooth and a great first massage.
- Sore, tight or knotted muscles? Choose a deep tissue massage. It uses firmer pressure on problem areas.
- Want to feel pampered? Our Signature massage adds warm stones, aromatherapy and a warm eye mask.
- Want fresh, healthy skin? Book a facial. Our facials use Dermalogica products and can include Celluma LED light therapy.
- Not sure? Book Swedish massage or a Classic facial. You can always tell your therapist what you want more of.
Book online. Choose your service, time and length in a few taps. [Book your visit].
Before you come:
- Eat lightly. A very full stomach is not comfortable when you lie down.
- Wear comfortable clothes. You will undress in private for a massage or change into a robe for a facial.
- For a facial, skip heavy makeup if you can. We will cleanse your skin anyway.
- Tell us in advance if you are pregnant, have allergies or sensitive skin, or have any medical concerns.
When you arrive
You will find us at 729 E 9400 S in Sandy. We greet you, check you in and show you to a private, quiet room.
Your therapist or esthetician will ask a few simple questions before you begin:
- What would you like help with today?
- Are there any sore spots or areas to avoid?
- How do you like pressure: light, medium or firm?
- Any allergies or skin sensitivities?
There are no wrong answers. This is the moment to tell us what you need.
During your massage
- Privacy: your therapist steps out while you undress to your comfort level and get under the sheet. You are covered the whole time. Only the area being worked on is uncovered.
- Pressure: speak up at any time. “A little lighter” or “a little firmer” is helpful, and we never mind.
- Talking: totally up to you. Chat if you like, or stay quiet and let your mind rest.
- The feeling: most people feel warm, calm and heavy. Some even fall asleep. That is a good sign.
- Deep tissue note: some spots may feel tender when worked on. It should feel like a “good hurt,” never sharp. If it is too much, tell us.
During your facial
Facials follow a simple flow. Your esthetician will:
- Cleanse your skin and look at what it needs.
- Gently exfoliate to clear away dull, dry skin.
- Apply a mask or serums picked for your skin type, and add a light massage of the face, neck and shoulders.
- Finish with moisturizer, and add sun protection when it is daytime.
If you add LED light therapy, it is a comfortable, painless light treatment. There is no heat burn and no downtime.
Your skin may look a little pink for a short time afterward. That is normal and fades quickly.
After your visit
- Drink water. It feels good and helps you feel your best.
- Take it easy. Plan something calm for the rest of the day if you can.
- For massage: you may feel a little tired or slightly sore after deep tissue work. Rest, water and a warm shower help.
- For a facial: skip harsh scrubs and heavy makeup for the rest of the day, and wear sunscreen.
- Come back when you are ready. Many guests do best with a massage or facial about once a month, and some enjoy both. Ask about our [membership](link: Membership page) and [series packages](link: Discount series page) if you plan to come regularly.
Common questions
Do I have to get undressed?
Only to your comfort level. For a massage, you undress in private and stay covered by a sheet. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in.
Will it hurt?
A relaxing massage or facial should feel good. Deep tissue can feel intense in tight spots, but you decide the pressure.
Do I have to talk?
No. Talk as much or as little as you like.
What if I feel nervous?
That is very common. Tell your therapist it is your first time. We will explain each step as we go.
Is it safe if I am pregnant?
Tell us when you book. We offer prenatal massage for your comfort and safety. Check with your doctor first if you have any concerns.
How long should I book for my first visit?
For most first-timers, a 60 minute massage is a comfortable start. For a facial, a Classic facial gives a full experience.
What if I need to reschedule?
See our spa policies for booking changes.
