THE QUICK ANSWER

What Is Prenatal Massage?

Prenatal massage, also called pregnancy massage, is a massage adjusted for your changing body. Your position, pressure and pace are all set around you and your baby, so you can let go of pregnancy aches without wondering if you are comfortable or safe. At Palm Spa, that means light Swedish strokes, a little more attention on the neck and shoulders, and a bolster or side-lying setup, so you are never flat on your back or on your stomach.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often about prenatal massage.

A prenatal massage is a massage adjusted for pregnancy, with special positioning and light pressure. At Palm Massage Spa, it is a Swedish-style session on your side or with a bolster, for guests who are 13 weeks along or more.

Many providers are comfortable with massage after the first trimester, so ask your own provider if you are unsure. Some conditions call for waiting or for your provider’s OK. See “Who Should Not Book” above, and call us if you are unsure. We are a spa, not a medical clinic, and we do not diagnose or treat conditions.

Side-lying with pillow support or with a bolster, whichever you choose. We set up the bolster if you have no preference. You never lie on your stomach or flat on your back.

No. We use light Swedish pressure, with a little more on the neck. Tell your therapist right away if anything feels like too much.

We do not offer deep tissue during pregnancy. Our prenatal massage uses light pressure instead. After your baby arrives, and your provider says it is fine, see our Deep Tissue Massage.

We do not offer hot stones during pregnancy. Prenatal massage is the better choice. After your baby arrives, see our Hot Stone Massage.

Wear anything comfortable. You stay draped, and only the area being worked on is uncovered.

Tell your therapist at any time. We can change your position, pause or stop. If you feel dizzy or short of breath, sit up slowly and drink water. If you have pain, bleeding or cramping, call your provider.
